For those of you that were waiting to read what happened on the 3 countries 4 days 5 riders trip, here is the link to the FirstTrack Online article for you to read and enjoy.

http://www.firsttracksonline.com/News/2009/2/2/A-European-Ski-Safari-Three-Countries-Seven-Resorts-Five-Days-One-Trip/

And here are a few photo highlights from the trip.
The following is a day to day diary of a client that recently under took one of our ski safaris.

"I only had five days and I wanted to cover as much ground as possible. It was going to be a challenging schedule…

Day One – Avoriaz, France
From 3 Countries 5 riders 4 days

The charming, car-free village of Avoriaz nestles on the clifftops overlooking Morzine. By night, it’s quiet – the only sound being the jingle of the horse-drawn sleighs that are the main mode of public transport. By day, it’s freestyle heaven – with four parks including the famous Stash. After a cruise around the area, we were off to Switzerland – easy to get to with the Portes du Soleil pass. We dropped into Les Crosets, where the pistes were deserted, then took the long, tree-lined home run into neighbouring Champery before – at 3pm – catching the last lift back to France. We arrive at our apartments – Saskia in the Pierre & Vacances complex – in time to watch the sun set behind the mountains.

Day Two – Chamonix, France
From 3 Countries 5 riders 4 days

Chamonix – at the foot of Mont Blanc – is busy and sophisticated. Compared to the sleepy resorts which surround it, it has a city-like vibe. After making the two-hour trip from Avoriaz, we head for Argentiere to access Les Grands Montets range. We tackle the mogul fields and black runs at the top before cruising around the reds and blues overlooking the park. Later, I experience one of Jeff’s après activities – dog sledding. After a lesson in how to control the sled and the amazing creatures that pull it, we’re off on a sunset trek. Our hotel – Les Cretes Blanches – is typical of one of Jeff’s gems. It has a Japanese tea room and we’re offered sushi and beers from the Far East when we arrive.

Day Three – Zermatt, Switzerland
From 3 Countries 5 Riders 4 Days day 3

We’re on the road before the sun rises, but we’re travelling in comfort thanks to the vehicle that’s been provided by airport transfer specialists Ski Lifts. It takes three hours to reach Täsch, where we take the short train ride up to car-free Zermatt. It’s a clear day and the imposing sight of the Matterhorn looming over the valley is breath-taking. The skiing’s excellent as well. After exploring the Rothorn and Sunegga areas, I head further towards the Matterhorn, criss-crossing the mountain railway on the home run. My accommodation – the lemon-coloured, triangular-shaped Le Petit Hotel – is very welcoming. It’s also inexpensive for Zermatt and located just off the main drag. Perfect.

Day Four – Cervinia, Italy
From 3 Countries 5 riders 4 days

It takes five hours to reach Cervinia by road, but we ski there in minutes from the Klein Matterhorn station in Zermatt. The park is impressive – with huge kickers and a friendly crew. The run down to Cervinia-Breuil is a beginners’ paradise, with numerous wide blue runs on the drop down – offering plenty of variety in an easy-to-access area. The Matterhorn looks completely different from this valley and it makes for great viewing over a delicious pizza lunch. We take the last lift back to Zermatt because we need to make the 50-minute trip to our final destination this evening.

Day Five – Saas-Fee, Switzerland
The pale-yellow sunlight which greeted my from my balcony at Haus Alfa promised much. I had spent a comfortable night in my spacious apartment just seconds from the car park (Saas-Fee is car-free too) and the ski bus pick-up was right outside. But then the weather closed in. Jeff and I take the Alpin Express to 3000m Felskinn. It’s blowing a hoolie but we soon drop into the shelter of the valley. It’s a huge area – taking in Saas-Grund and Saas-Almagell as well. Jeff usually spends a couple of days exploring with his clients, but my trip had come to an end. I was exhausted, but exhilarated. Ski safaris are definitely the way forward."

Well, have just returned from a weeks skiing in Les Carroz over the new year period, for which we were blessed with cold sunshine and lots of snow.

The beginning of the week was perfect blue skies and sunshine, perfect conditions for every one to find there feet, or should I say skis and dust down the cob webs. By Tuesday the forcast was for up to 30 cm new snow on New Years Eve, perfect way to end the New Year.

Sure enough the snow started to fall and gave every one the opportunity time to practice there off piest skills in the new powder.

New years day brought the perfect powder day – blue skies and fresh lines to be had.

Here are just a few photos from the tour on New Years day 2009.

If you wish to find out how to take part in such a tour, feel free to email me and I will be happy to help - info@jistski.com

THREE COUNTRIES, FOUR RIDERS, FIVE DAYS… 14-18 JAN 2009
OUR MISSION:

To ski three countries in five days, inspiring snow sports enthusiasts to put the adventure back into their holidays.

In January, I am undertaking a trip for which press coverage reaching nearly four million readers in the UK and North America has already been agreed - covered by world class journalist Leigh Mytton, for who amongst others writes for the BBC, Telegraph and numerous snowboard and ski magazines. We want to inspire people to put the adventure back into their holidays and to reconsider what Europe has to offer, instead of fleeing to far-flung destinations. The timing is good too, because - with the recession - more people will be staying in Europe this season.

The trip will take place between Jan 14 and 18. With the following Itinerary;

  • January 14th Avoriaze

  • January 15th Chamonix

  • January 16th Courmayer

  • January 17th Cervina/Zermatt

  • January 18th Sass-Fee
